Barnes & Noble to Make eBook Reader?

In what we can only assume is true bandwagon, fair weather, go with the flow and jump off the cliff if everyone else is doing it fashion, we've started to hear rumors that Barnes & Noble may be in the market for creating their own eBook reader. This doesn't come as a huge surprise, and the more we learn and think about it, the more we realize that it would probably be more surprising if they didn't actually put out their own electronic device.


We heard a lot from CTIA that many of the major cell phone carriers, jealous of Sprint's success with Amazon and the whole whispernet technology thing, were also in negotiations with other companies about providing wireless access for their eBook Readers. While most of the companies were not eager to divulge whom they were talking with, it appears negotiations between Barnes & Noble have recently fallen apart. Guess that's why they didn't want to talk about it.

B&N has recently acquired eBook distributor Fictionwise and is providing content for other eBook readers. The next logical move for the bookseller giant would be to move toward providing their own device to distribute their newly acquired content. After this, we suppose the next step would be to move toward providing digital content only. B&N stores would be much smaller ...
